Everest - Cho La Pass Trek

  • Day 01: Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft).

    Your arrival will be welcomed by the staff of K.J. Adventures at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. The airport representative will escort you to your hotel and help you with the check-in process. He will further explain you regarding the trip and provide you with all the necessary details. Overnight at the hotel.

  • Day 02: Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek preparation (1,300m/4,264ft).

    Leisure day in Kathmandu! On this day, we will have a full day heritage tour where we will visit four important Heritage sites located in different parts of Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square Located in the heart of the city, Kathmandu Durbar Square holds the ancient royalties of Nepal. The site holds the massive Royal square with varieties of temples dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Other attractions of this place are Kumari Ghar, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, Kaal Bhairav, and Jagannath Temple. Swayambhunath Stupa Another ancient marvel located in the western hillock of Kathmandu. This Buddhist stupa is considered one of the best attraction of Kathmandu City. From ancient architecture to ancient symbolism, Swayambhunath is an important shrine in both Buddhist as well as Hindu culture. The stupa comprises many important shrines, monastery, temples, museum, and library. Pashupatinath Temple Pashupatinath Temple is one of the holiest shrines of the Hindus. It is also considered as the largest Hindu temple in South Asia with iconic Hindu God, Goddesses and hundreds of Shiva Lingam. The two-tiered golden temple is a perfect example of the Nepalese architecture. Although tourists are not allowed inside the premises of the temple, they can witness the open cremation in the bank of the Bagmati river. Boudhanath Stupa Boudhanath Stupa is one of the biggest and oldest Buddhist monument in the world. It is Considered to be the tomb of Kassapa Buddha, Boudhanath marks as one of the most significant destinations in Buddhism. The place is no less significant when it comes to architecture. The dome-shaped stupa is built with different three levels in a Mandala style and is decorated with colorful prayer flags. The atmosphere of Boudhanath Stupa is both vibrant as well as tranquil. After the full day sightseeing, we will do the necessary preparation for the trek in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

  • Day 03: Day 03: Domestic flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2,610m/8699ft).

    Early morning transport to the domestic airport for our flight to Lukla. The half an hour flight to the foothills of Khumbu region is considered as one of the most adventurous flights on earth. Upon reaching Lukla, we will start our trek to Phakding. We start our walk with a gradual descent to the village of Cheplung where the first glimpses of Mt. Khumbila appear on sight. The trail further continues with a slight downhill to our overnight destination at Phakding.

  • Day 04: Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441m/11,283ft).

    We start our walk early after breakfast under the cool shades of pine forest. Along the way, we first walk past the Benkar valley and cross over the Dudh Koshi River to reach Monjo, the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park. The trail then ventures slightly uphill to Jorsale passing along waterfalls and other natural encounters. The trail will reward us with the first-ever glimpse of Mt. Everest along the way. We then alongside Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers before climbing a steep hill to reach our overnight destination at Namche Bazaar. Due to its strategic location, Namche Bazaar remains as the commercial hub of the Khumbu region. Namche Bazaar offers a close-up view of Thamserku and Kongde Ri Himal. Overnight at a teahouse.

  • Day 05: Day 05: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar (3,441m/11,283ft).

    An acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar before traveling to a higher elevation. There’s plenty of things to do in this heartland of Khumbu region. We will explore the colorful markets of Namche that is filled with internet cafes, restaurants, and shops. We can also hike up to the Everest View Hotel and enjoy the stunning vista of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Thamserku, Nuptse, Kongde and other surrounding mountains. Overnight at a local teahouse.

  • Day 06: Day 06: Trek to Tengboche (3,860m/12,660ft)).

    Early morning after breakfast, we start our journey with a gradual walk towards Phunki Tenga. The trail from Phunki Tenga to Tengboche is slightly strenuous with a steep uphill. We walk along the right bank of Dudh Koshi River to reach Tengboche. Tengboche is the home to one of the most famous monasteries in the Everest region. Tengboche Monastery is considered as the largest monastery of the region and offers a stunning view of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding massifs.

  • Day 07: Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4,350m/14,464ft).

    We begin our day with a gentle descends through the shades of rhododendron and birch forest. We walk past Orsho as the trail leads through the west bank of Imja river. Upon crossing the Imja River via a suspension bridge, we reach a small settlement at Pangboche. We will be accompanied by giant massifs including Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Kongma-Tse along the way. As we continue our walk through the Imja Valley and ascend slightly, we reach Dingboche, the gateway of Chukung valley. Overnight at a local teahouse.

  • Day 08: Day 08: Acclimatization Day at Dingboche (4,350m/14,464ft).

    A significant acclimatization day at Dingboche. We have a couple of options to get along with our day at Dingboche. We can either choose to rest in the teahouse and make a short exploration around the village or we can also hike to Nagarjun which lies at the elevation of 5,100m. Nagarjun is located on the edge of Chukhung valley just above the village of Dingboche. The hike is a steep uphill which may get strenuous at times. However, Nagarjun offers magnificent panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lobuche East, Lobuche West, Kangtega, and Taboche Peak. We hike back to Dingboche for the overnight.

  • Day 09: Day 09: Trek to Lobuche (4,910m/16,105ft).

    After the early morning breakfast, we walk towards Dungla and descend to the Trekkers Aid Post - located at the village of Pheriche (4210m). The trail leads to a junction right below Thukla Memorial. We climb the steep uphill on a moraine of Khumbu Glacier towards Chupki Lhara. The top of the ridge is decorated in prayer flags and stone shrines in the memory of the fallen climbers of Everest. The route then descends to the moraine of Khumbu Glacier and we walk right next to some of the highest mountains in the world until we reach Lobuche. Overnight at a local teahouse.

  • Day 10: Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,365m/17,594ft) & descend to Gorak Shep (5,180m/16,994ft).

    Today will be by far the most anticipated day of this adventure. Our journey to the Everest Base Camp begins with a gradual ascend and descend in a narrow path between the mountain wall and glacial moraine. After walking a couple of hours on rough terrains, our trail will lead to Gorak Shep. We continue walking on the rocky terrains and head towards the Everest Base Camp. Upon arriving at the base camp, we will be greeted with the amazing sight of Mt. Everest, Khumbu Icefall, Nuptse, Khumbutse, and Lingtren. After enjoying our time at the base camp, we retrace our route back to Gorak Shep.

  • Day 11: Day 11: Morning Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,188ft) & trek to Dzongla (4830m/15,840ft).

    Another amazing highlight of this trek has to be the early morning hike to the vantage point of Kala Patthar. We start our day early at dawn with a gradual uphill in narrow paths. Upon reaching the summit of Kala Patthar, the sight is simply outstanding. The morning view from Kala Patthar is considered one of the most stunning mountain views on earth. It offers the glimpses of some of the world’s highest mountains including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Pumori. After spending an unforgettable time at the summit of Kala Patthar, we retrace our route back to Gorak Shep and descend to Lobuche. We then follow the downstream of Lobuche Khola where the trail curves rightwards through the grassy terrains to reach Dzongla.

  • Day 12: Cross Cho La Pass (5420m/17,780ft) and trek to Thangna (4700m/15,415ft).

    Another anticipated day of this trek! We start our day early in the morning and climb for about 3 hours on steep trails before we reach the icy trails of Cho La Pass. The section gets steeper and strenuous as we edge closer to the top of Cho La Pass. Despite being the most difficult section of the trek, the achievement of crossing Cho La Pass is definitely worth the challenge. After crossing the tough pass, most of our trail is gradual downhill towards Thangna.

  • Day 13: Day 13: Trek to Gokyo (4790m/15,710ft).

    The day is relatively shorter as it only takes a couple of hours to reach Gokyo Valley from Thangna. However, the biggest challenge of the day is to cross over the Ngozumpa Glacier. The icy mass of Ngozumpa is the largest glacier in Nepal with 36 kilometers in length. Right above the moraine, lies the first glacial lake, Longpongo, with crystal clear water. The second lake, Taboche Tsho lies just below the moraine as we descend downhill. The small settlement of Gokyo valley is located in the tranquility just beside the third lake, Dudh Pokhari. This small lodge settlement offers magnificent views of the lakes along with the towering Cho Oyu towards the north.

  • Day 14: Day 14: Hike to Gokyo Ri and trek to Machhermo (4,470m/14,663ft).

    Gokyo Ri, a picturesque viewpoint at 5,483m, marks as another significant highlight of this trek. The trail is quite challenging and strenuous as it demands a heavy ascent. The steep uphill to the summit of Gokyo Ri is rocky and narrow. The view from the top is simply astonishing as the panorama of Himalayas extends from Cho Oyu to Everest, to Lhotse, all the way to Makalu. Additionally, the three lakes of Gokyo can also be seen with Thamserku and Khantega on the backdrop. In the afternoon, we descend down to Machhermo for the overnight stay. Machhermo is a small settlement in Dudh Koshi Valley which lies south of Gokyo valley.

  • Day 15: Day 15: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441m/11,283ft).

    After the breakfast, we make a steep descend under the shades of rhododendron forest towards Phortse Tenga. Upon reaching Phortse Tenga, our trail leads to rather inclined uphill towards the hills of Mong La. The trail then gradually descends towards Kyangjuma before reaching the colorful town of Namche Bazaar. Overnight at local lodge.

  • Day 16: Day 16: Trek to Lukla (2,800m/9,184ft).

    Soon after leaving Namche Bazaar, our trail leads to a steep downhill over the rocky ridge towards Toktok. The trail follows along the Dudh Koshi River that leads to numerous suspension bridges. We walk across ample of colorful prayer flags, chortens, mani walls, small monasteries, and Sherpa settlements before reaching Lukla. In the evening, we will celebrate the success of the trek with all our team members.

  • Day 17: Day 17: Fly back to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft).

    On this day, we bid our final goodbye to the Khumbu region and take a half an hour scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arriving at the bustling city of Kathmandu, we will be escorted back to our hotel where we can finally rest our tiring feet.

  • Day 18: Day 18: Leisure day at Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft).

    A leisure day in Kathmandu. On this day, we wander around the city and explore a few nearby places. We can also go shopping around Thamel to buy souvenirs. In the evening, we will have a typical Nepali Dal Bhat for the farewell dinner.

  • Day 19: Day 19: International Departure.

    Departure day! Depending upon your flight schedules, the representative of K.J. Adventures will pick you up from the hotel and escort you to the airport for the final departure.
